About MetarCentral
Built by a pilot, for pilots
Created by a Pilot & Software Engineer
I'm a Private Pilot licence holder and software engineer who got fed up with having to hunt the same aviation data across multiple websites every time I planned a flight. Weather on one site, NOTAMs on another, frequencies somewhere else - all presented in formats that made quick decision-making unnecessarily difficult.
MetarCentral is me scratching my own itch. I wanted a single, fast platform that brings together METAR, TAF, NOTAMs, and airport information in a clean, digestible format - designed for how pilots actually use data during flight planning. No clutter, no hunting, no decoding walls of raw text unless you want to.
Every feature on this platform exists because I needed it myself. Performance calculators, crosswind analysis, decoded weather - all designed to support real go/no-go decisions with the speed and clarity that pilots deserve.

Our Data Sources
MetarCentral relies exclusively on official, real-time aviation data sources. Our METAR and TAF data comes directly from official meteorological services, providing up-to-the-minute weather observations and forecasts. NOTAMs are sourced from official aeronautical information services to ensure pilots have current operational notices.
We are continuously working to add official AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication) links for each airport, country, and FIR, so you can always access the authoritative source documents when needed.
Airport data, including frequencies, runways, and geographic coordinates, is sourced from verified aviation databases and cross-referenced for accuracy.
Editorial Standards
Aviation is a safety-critical domain. MetarCentral adheres to strict editorial standards to ensure the data presented to pilots is reliable and trustworthy.
- Only official, verified data sources are used - never mock, generated, or simulated data
- Weather data (METAR, TAF) is presented as received from official meteorological services
- When data is unavailable, we clearly indicate it rather than showing stale or estimated information
- Decoded weather interpretations follow ICAO standard terminology
- All data is timestamped so you always know how current it is
MetarCentral is a supplementary planning tool. Always verify critical flight information with official sources and your local aviation authority before flight.
Technical Approach
MetarCentral uses a modern, single-stack PHP architecture optimized for speed and reliability. Real-time weather data is cached intelligently to ensure rapid response times while maintaining accuracy.
The platform is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA), allowing installation on mobile devices with offline functionality for cached data.
